DAILY EXHORTATION

One of the things I learned in my walk with God, is that it is a daily endeavor and a matter of survival. As I try to obey God, the resistance from the powers of darkness increases. James 4:7 tells us to "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you". I have been taught that the following "Exhortations to Christianity" help fight the good fight of faith.

READ THE WORD OF GOD OUT LOUD DAILY. Especially the Psalms and the New Testament. Romans 10:17 states "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God". We build up our faith to resist the devil by reading out loud and hearing what we read. In Jeremiah 23:29 God says "Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?"  Reading the word of God deals with our hearts so that we can obey Him.

LEARN TO PRAY WITHOUT CEASING. This is a simple and straightforward commandment that Paul stated in 1st Thessalonians 5:17 "Pray without ceasing" In Matthew 26:41, Jesus said "Watch and pray, that you enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." We stay out of temptation by praying. Praise and Worship are a type of prayer and in Psalm 22:3 David says "But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel" (his people). Verse 26 goes on to say "...they shall praise the Lord that seek him:.." If we want God to hear our prayers, we must praise Him and He inhabits our praises!

FAST ACCORDING TO ISAIAH CHAPTER 58. In this chapter in the book of Isaiah, verses 6 and 7 tells us why we should fast and verse 8 tells us the results. In Psalm 35:13 David states "...I humbled my soul with fasting:..." You can see why this is important when you read James 4:6 "...God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." Fasting humbles our souls so we can receive God's grace in our lives.

SEEK TO BE LED BY THE SPIRIT. Romans 8:14 says "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God". If we are not being led by His spirit, then we are doing our own thing which is rebellion and we are not sons (and daughters) of God. 1st Samuel 15:23 states that "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft...". We can all be led by the spirit. Jesus said in John 10:27 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:" We CAN hear him. And God speaking through the writer of the book of Hebrews says in chapter 8, verse 11 "Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest". We can all know God and we can all hear his voice.
